About Us

The U.S. Department of State’s Cultural Heritage Center specializes in the protection and preservation of the ancient and historic monuments, objects, and archaeological sites of the world. The Cultural Heritage Center works on many fronts to safeguard the patrimony of other countries, including administering bilateral treaties that create import restrictions represented in this database; managing the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, which supports heritage preservation in more than 100 developing countries; and carrying out special projects to support U.S. and international foreign policy and law enforcement objectives.
